The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Tuesday

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, better known as Shi’ites, on Monday, defied warnings by a combined force of the Nigerian army and the police as they trooped into the FCT from all major routes to observe the Arbaeen mourning processions.
The sect, whose members came out in their thousands for the procession, clashed again with security operatives when the army attempted to stop them from accessing the city-centre. The ensuing fracas led to the security operatives opening fire on the group along Nyanya, an outskirt of the FCT. Unspecified number of persons were, however, killed.
2. Immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has been released from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) custody. This was disclosed by his media aide, Lere Olayinka on Monday. Olayinka said the ex-governor would return to court on November 19.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that with the humongous resources at the disposal of Nigeria between 1999 and 2014, it was sad that infrastructure was not fixed. Buhari said the administrations then allowed infrastructure to rot completely within the period. He said this when he received the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, in a farewell audience at State House, Abuja, on Monday.
4. A former Minister of Education, Dr.Oby Ezekwesili has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being corrupt. Ezekwesili, who is the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, there is doubt that President Buhari is the most parochial, most nepotistic and most partisan president that Nigeria has ever had.
5. The Amnesty International Nigeria has condemned the attacks by the Nigerian Army on members of the Islamic Movement who were on a religious procession of Arbaeen in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. AI decried army’s use of force on civilian protesters, describing the attacks as needless and unacceptable.
6. Real Madrid have confirmed that the club has agreed to terminate the contract of head coach, Julen Lopetegui, after just 14 games in charge of the club. Lopetegui’s dismissal comes 24 hours after Real were humiliated 5-1 by Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The Santiago Bernabeu side also announced that former midfielder and Real Madrid Castilla manager, Santiago Solari, will take temporary charge of the club from today.
7. Staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), on Monday, called for a legislation that will phase out Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) from the activities of the scheme. They made the call in Abuja during the continuation of their protest for the Executive Secretary, Prof. Usman Yusuf, to respect the suspension order given to him by the Governing Council. The Vice Chairman, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NHIS chapter, Mr. Theophilus Egwadah, stated that HMOs were among the major problems hindering the progress of the NHIS.
8. The Nigeria Police Force said it had arrested 93 suspects who actively participated in the recent killings in Kaduna State. Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen on Monday in Abuja, said that 43 of the suspects were being prosecuted while 50 were still in police custody.
9. A former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Jokotola Pelumi, and 49 others have been arrested over alleged attack and killing of a police officer attached to the anti-cultism unit. Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, parading the suspects told newsmen in Ikeja that the former Speaker, alongside others attacked and killed Akingboju Akindele, a Deputy Superintendent of police, while trying to effect the arrest of some suspected cultists.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the Peoples Democratic Party’s threat that it is going to court to challenge his West African School Certificate (WASC). Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said it was a waste of time because the record was available, as well as those of higher qualifications obtained by hard work and truly merited by Mr President. He said to approach the court to pursue a matter long settled by the temple of justice was an abuse of the judicial system, shameful, disgusting and disgraceful.

From Studio to Spotlight: Meet Espago, the 2025 Breakout Artist Shaping Afro‑Fusion

At 31, Lagos-born Espago is redefining what it means to be a late bloomer in the Nigerian music
space. After spending years as a chef, designer, and farmer, Espago turned to music just a year
ago on a journey sparked by deep loss, life experience, and self-discovery.
What makes him different? It’s not just his sound, it’s his story. Espago brings a calm but
confident energy that mirrors his Lagos upbringing: a blend of vibrant Fuji rhythms and soulful
Afrobeat traditions like King Sunny Ade, shaped by global legends like Michael Jackson and
Celine Dion. His voice? Professionally trained. His brand? Stylish, grounded, and intentional.
Espago didn’t wait for the industry to find him; he found his own way in, teaching himself,
searching out producers, and building his identity from scratch. With no major label backing and
no big-name features, he has still built a brand marked by boldness, emotion, and Lagos street
authenticity.
He’s not just making music; he’s building a lifestyle brand. His creative roots are in food,
fashion, and music fused into something richer than just a “sound.” It’s a full experience. While
he hasn’t performed live yet, he’s putting in the work behind the scenes, mentoring new artists,
recording regularly to sharpen his voice and brand for bigger stages ahead.
In a scene dominated by speed, Espago’s journey is about intentional growth, honest
expression, and emotional connection.
As the new class of Afro‑HipHop begins to take shape, Espago stands out not just for what he’s
making, but for who he is becoming.
