White House Starts Investigation About The Controversial Malia Obama’s Selfie
It’s a national mystery that has left both the social media world and the Secret Service scratching their heads.
On Sunday night, a photo of what appears to be Malia Obama wearing a Pro Era shirt surfaced on Instagram. It quickly went viral after the Brooklyn-based hip-hop collective posted the pic to advertise its online store.
Essence.com says a rep for the group told Gawker on Monday that the photo was from “a mutual friend of Malia and the pro era member,” but White House officials aren’t so sure. Fox News reports that government officials are looking into the photo’s origins.
Michelle Obama has been very vocal in the past about how she regulates her daughters’ social media usage. She told Barbara Walters in 2013 that Malia could only use Facebook, and Sasha was banned from all forms of social media in an effort to protect the girls from the public eye.
So I was scrolling earlier and stopped on this NNPC Retail flyer because it’s literally just a big question mark and a line that says “66 Reasons Why You Need To Watch This Space.” Nothing else. No context, no explanation, just vibes and mystery.
It also speaks to our Naija slang and banter (the “Omo,” “Gbas Gbos,” and “Sapa” ones had me laughing).
It’s part of their ongoing “66 Reasons Why We Love Naija” series, so it seems to be leading up to something for October 1st. What they are clear about is that you need the NNPC Fuel App to be in the loop. They describe it as fast, secure, reliable, and rewarding, and they’ve made it easy with a QR code you can scan straight from the post.
