Lawsuit Challenging Funke Akindele, Husband And Others’ COVID-19 Conviction Thrown Out By Court

A lawsuit seeking to set aside the conviction of actress Funke Akindele, her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello – JJC, and 236 others who were prosecuted for violating Lagos state’s 2020 lockdown and social distancing order to check the spread of Covid-19, has been thrown out by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Recall that Akindele and her husband were convicted on April 6, 2020, by the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, days after they held a crowded house birthday party in violation of Lagos State’s social distancing order.
Justice Akintayo Aluko who presided over the case brought to the court by Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, who challenged the constitutionality of the Lagos State Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations 2020 pursuant to which Akindele, her husband and 236 others were convicted and sentenced, held that the suit was incompetent and disclosed no reasonable cause of action.
Ogungbeje in the lawsuit marked FHC/L/CS/588/2020, which has the Lagos State Government, Attorney-General of Lagos State, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Inspector-General of Police as defendants, had also sought, among others, an order compelling the Respondents jointly and severally to tender a public apology in three widely read newspaper publications to persons/Nigerian arrested, arraigned, tried, convicted and sentenced.
The Nation reported that the defendants argued that Section 8 of the Quarantine Act, 2004 allows the governor to make the regulations where the President of Nigeria had not made such regulations.
They also noted that the regulation was made for public safety, public good and protection which is larger and far greater than that of an individual such as the applicant.
Delivering judgement on the case, Justice Aluko said;
“In total, I hold that this suit has disclosed no reasonable cause of action against the Respondents.
“The instant suit is incompetent and the court lacks jurisdiction to adjudicate over same.
“Accordingly, this suit is hereby struck out for those reasons.”

Meet Queen Geradzzy: The Lagos-Raised Voice Ready to Shape the Future of Afrobeats

Every icon starts with a single spark. For emerging Nigerian Afrobeats artist Queen Geradzzy, that moment came back in 2013 on the vibrant streets of Lagos Mainland. Watching Tiwa Savage command the stage with poise, power, and unapologetic femininity, a young Geradzzy didn’t just see an artist—she saw a blueprint for her own future.
What began as a childhood dream quickly grew into an undeniable calling. By 2019, Geradzzy took a leap of faith, moving to Lekki to immerse herself fully in the heart of the Nigerian music industry. Years of quiet dedication, vocal refinement, and deep creative exploration followed. Today, that discipline is paying off as she prepares to step into the global spotlight.
Queen Geradzzy’s music sits at an exciting intersection where classic Afrobeats rhythms meet polished international pop and R&B. Her sound is inherently versatile—catchy, sensual, deeply emotional, and effortlessly relatable.
Much like the artist herself, her music balances soft vulnerability with an unshakeable, ambitious confidence. She brings a fresh perspective to modern African pop, leading with strong feminine energy and an aura of intentional mystery that leaves listeners wanting more.

This NNPC Retail Post Raised More Questions Than It Answered

So I was scrolling earlier and stopped on this NNPC Retail flyer because it’s literally just a big question mark and a line that says “66 Reasons Why You Need To Watch This Space.” Nothing else. No context, no explanation, just vibes and mystery.
It also speaks to our Naija slang and banter (the “Omo,” “Gbas Gbos,” and “Sapa” ones had me laughing).
It’s part of their ongoing “66 Reasons Why We Love Naija” series, so it seems to be leading up to something for October 1st. What they are clear about is that you need the NNPC Fuel App to be in the loop. They describe it as fast, secure, reliable, and rewarding, and they’ve made it easy with a QR code you can scan straight from the post.
If they’re trying to build hype, it’s working on me. SCAN THE BAR CODE HERE.
