VIDEO: Barcelona 6 – 1 Celta Vigo [La Liga] Highlights 2015/16
Lionel Messi passed up on the chance to score his 300th Liga goal by passing a penalty to the Uruguayan attacker who rounded off a fine evening with an impressive treble
Luis Saurez, Lionel Messi and Neymar were on form once again for Barcelona – combining well to secure a 5-1 win over Celta, with Ivan Rakitic grabbing the final goal.
The Uruguayan attacker netted three thanks to two assists from Messi, who scored one of his own, and one from Neymar in a simple win.
The highlight of the game came late in the second half as Messi stepped up to take a penalty but instead passed it to Suarez to get him his third strike.
Messi opened the scoring after 28 minutes with a sublime free kick past Sergio Alvarez, but John Guidetti was on hand to level for the visitors with a penalty later in the half.
The Catalan side found themselves back in the lead 15 minutes after the restart, though, with Messi scooping the ball nto Luis Suarez’s path with wonderful precision, allowing the Uruguay attacker to tuck home to make it 2-1.
Suarez had the game beyond doubt with 15 minutes remaining, as Messi cut inside and poked a through-ball into the path of Neymar, who sprinted into the penalty area and rounded Alvarez before sliding a shot over towards the far post, where Suarez was able to knock it into the back of the net from close range.
Things got easier for Barcelona shortly afterwards, with Messi taking a penalty but instead of placing it into the net, passing to Suarez to wrap up the Uruguayan’s hat-trick, with the Argentine star subsequently missing out on scoring a 300th Liga goal.
Rakitic then got in on the scoring when he took on a Suarez pass and fired into the back of the net, before Neymar added a sixth for his side in the dying minutes.
