1. Armed gunmen on Tuesday attacked a commercial bank in Iju, Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State, leaving two persons dead. The gunmen who were said to have stormed Wema bank on Tuesday’s afternoon were confronted by men of the Nigeria Army as well as police officers.
2. Residents of Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State in the northeast region on Tuesday said that attack by Boko Haram, Monday night at about 10:25 pm left five civilians dead with several others injured following exchange of gunfire between security forces and members of the ISWAP.
3. The Aworis in Lagos State yesterday, cried out that they were being marginalised in the government of Lagos State, claiming that they were not well represented despite being the owners of the land. At a press conference held in Lagos by the Awori Obas in conjunction with the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN), they disclosed that they may be forced to put their own people forward for political posts and withdraw their supports for the non-Aworis henceforth.
4. There was palpable tension in Bauchi State yesterday as many students of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University were reportedly killed following the collapse of a bridge linking the University Monday night. The incident was as a result of a heavy downpour in the State which lasted for several hours. The number of casualties is sketchy as some sources within the school said two students were washed off while some said three, and some even put the number at four with several others still missing. However, the school authority said two students died.
5. The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has been caught in an audio recording where he threatened to destroy Ikale land in Okitipupa Local Government Area. Akeredolu made the threat at the palace of Abodi of Ikale land, Oba George Faduyile, where he tongue-lashed the monarch over the communal clash at Ago-Alaye between the Ikales and the people of Araromi-Obu in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
6. The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the continuation of the petitions challenging the victory of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the last gubernatorial election. A three-man tribunal had earlier dismissed the petitions due to the inability of the petitioners to file applications for pre-hearing conference after the close of pleadings within seven days as prescribed by law.
7. Catholic bishops yesterday, advised the federal government to stop treating the menace of killer herdsmen and other crimes with levity, noting that such disposition of the government was creating panic and fear among Nigerians. They said it was sad that the government has not even shown a clear pattern to secure the lives of the people and through which those perpetrating the acts can be apprehended and punished.
8. The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Tuesday, faulted the RevolutionNow protest called by the 2019 African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore. Shettima Yerima, leader of the group insisted that dialogue should be employed in resolving Nigeria’s challenges and not revolution. He, however, appealed to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to release Sowore.
9. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, issued strong warning to the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State may get away with victory in the coming governorship election if members and leadership of the party (PDP) are not united. Jonathan spoke during the PDP Elders Advisory Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, ahead of the November 16, 2019 election.
10. Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, otherwise known as the Progressives Governors’ Forum on Tuesday, reacted to the arrest and detention of Omoyele Sowore. The APC Governors reacted through its Chairman, and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu. They also condemned the revolution protest called by Sowore-led Global Coalition for Security and Democracy. Bagudu spoke with journalists in Abuja, insisting that democracy was the best form of government Nigeria had.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
