1. A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday sacked Senator Ayogu Eze as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State.
In a judgment delivered by Hon. Justice I. Ekwo of the Federal High Court 5, the court asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize Barr. George Ogara as the candidate. He berated the committee sent by the APC NWC to conduct primary election in Enugu.
2. Report says chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have voted to continue the three months old strike. This is after a nationwide referendum conducted by the chapters of the union to decide on whether to suspend the strike or not.
3. No fewer than 10,000 members of the National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes, NANP, on Tuesday stormed Abuja, the nation’s capital ahead of the February 16 presidential and National Assembly elections. The group vowed to mobilize its members across the country for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Confirming the development, Secretary General of the group, Sandra Efosa, said they settled for Atiku after studying his policy documents carefully for several weeks.
4. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has said that the February 16 Presidential election offers a very rare opportunity for the northeast to produce a president in the person of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking in Bauchi on Tuesday at the Presidential campaign rally of the PDP, Hon Dogara noted that some people think that the northeast can never be able to produce someone that will have the golden opportunity of becoming the president of Nigeria.
5. Some armed bandits on Tuesday morning allegedly killed the elder sister of Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, Hajia Ade Marafa in Ruwan Bore community in Gusau Local Government area of Zamfara State. It was gathered that the armed bandits who stormed their residence in the early hours of Tuesday also abducted the deceased’s husband. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Shehu, said they some policemen have been mobilized to the scene of the incident.
6. Several persons have been reported killed and many others injured after suspected herdsmen attacked The Taavaan, in Mbadwem, Guma LGA of Benue State. Reliable sources said that among those killed was a community leader, Mr. Clement Kulugh. Consequently, Residents of the community have fled their homes for fear of further attacks from the herdsmen.
7. The Zamfara State Police on Tuesday confirmed the killing of 15 persons and the kidnapping of six women by gunmen in Gusau local government area of the state. The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu, made the confirmation in a statement.
8. Nigerians residing in South Africa on Tuesday alleged that Nigeria was sliding back to the era of dictatorship instead of moving forward democratically. Nigerians under the aegis of Southgerians said they can’t allow one man to destroy the gains “our country has made in civil leadership.’’ This, they said was the reason for their constant protests.
9. The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal on Tuesday sacked the Commissioner for Information, Mr Bello Muhammad-Goronyo, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Tambuwal’s Director-General, Media and Public Relations, Malam Abubakar Shekara, disclosed this in a statement in Sokoto.
10. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday said former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, owe Nigerians explanations on alleged mismanagement of the Petroleum Trust Development Funds (PTDF). Tinubu stated this during APC campaign at the 12,000 capacity Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, the State Capital.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
