1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday agreed on N30,000 as the new national minimum wage. Buhari gave the approval during the meeting with the Tripartite Committee working on the new minimum wage. at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to the President, Nigerian workers deserve a new wage as they have been struggling since 2011 following the rise in prices of goods and services. The presidency has, however, denied Buhari’s approval, saying he did not endorse any amount during the meeting.
2. The seven-man committee set-up by the Kano State House of Assembly to investigate the alleged bribery video clips against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the State has vowed to continue with its assignment despite the court order stopping it. The Chairman of the committee, and member representing Kano Municipal, Alhaji Baffa Danagundi disclosed the committee ‘s decision on Tuesday. He said that the committee will work in line with the constitution of the country.
3. Suspected gunmen on Tuesday shot dead one Alhaji Nasiru Maimasara at Gachi quarters in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State. It was learnt that the gunmen also kidnapped his daughter while she tried to escape the incident. The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
4. The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu alongside his wife, and son, Tuesday at about 4am escaped an assassination attempt. The armed men discreetly evaded the security at Ekweremadu’s Apo quarters residence, to gain entry into his house. Ekweremadu’s special Media adviser, Uche Anichukwu in a statement said the attackers, who could not immediately shoot in order not to attract the attention of the security personnel on duty, took hold of his son, and commanded him to lead them to the Senator’s bedroom.
3. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has said that it has commenced investigation on the alleged assassination attempt on the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu. Speaking on the incident, DCP Jimoh Moshood, the Force Public Relations Officer, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, explained that the incident was a burglary and not an assassination attempt.
6. The Buhari Media Organisation says U.S. lobbyist were paid millions of dollars to secure an American visa for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, said this in a statement jointly signed in Abuja on Tuesday, describing the effort as another chapter in PDP’s “book of corruption.”
7. Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, has confirmed the kidnap of his brother, wife and two others on Kabba-Oshokoshoko road in the state. Kolawole, who disclosed this during the house plenary sitting on Tuesday, said the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums appeared in Army and Police uniforms and later demanded ransom. The speaker, while drawing the attention of the state government and security agencies to the rampant kidnapping which has resurfaced in the state noted that the incident happened on Monday.
8. Senate President, Bukola Saraki has reacted to claims by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) that he plans to increase salaries of Nigerian senators. Reacting, Saraki in a statement by his Special Assistant on New Media, Olu Onemola, described the allegation as untrue, adding that there are no plans to increase the allowances of Senators. He, however, urged SERAP to get its fact right.
9. The Buhari Campaign Organization (BCO) has demanded apology from the Director, Strategic Communications, President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo, for linking it to a letter soliciting for contracts from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. In a statement signed by the National Coordinator and National Secretary, Alh Danladi Pasali and Mike Asatuyi respectively, the organization distanced itself from the letter, stating that it was self-funded.
10. The Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday said, that its fighter aircraft operating against recalcitrant insurgents in the northeast have bombed a Boko Haram camp in Borno, killing many of the terrorists and destroying their equipment. A statement signed by Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, said fighter aircraft used in the operation include the Alpha Jets, the F-7NI and the Mi-35 helicopter gunship.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
