1. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has signed the Anti-Grazing Bill passed by the State House of Assembly into law. Akeredolu signed the bill into law at his office in Akure, the State capital, on Tuesday.
2. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the general cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions. It has, therefore, given the institutions freedom to set their individual minimum benchmark for admission. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this on Tuesday.
3. Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers Tuesday raided a Government hospital in Bayelsa, Diete Koki Memorial Hospital, carting away cash and valuables belonging to doctors on duty and patients as well. One of the Doctors on duty, Dr Okeleghel Awudumapu, told journalists that the robbery gang attacked while he was returning from his call room.
4. The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, refused to hear a fresh bail application filed by a former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina. The vacation judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, refused to hear the bail application which was moved by Maina’s counsel, Mr David Iorhemba, on the grounds that it was contentious.
5. The United States Tuesday said Nigeria procured 12 new A-29 Super Tucano jets at a sum of $500 million. Gen. Jeff Harrigian, U.S. Air Forces Europe-Air Forces Africa commander disclosed this on Tuesday at the A-29 Super Tucano induction ceremony, hosted by the Nigerian Minister of Defense, Bashir Salihi Magashi and the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja.
6. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Tuesday ordered the interim forfeiture of the funds and properties traced to Mr Abidemi Ganiyu Rufai, the suspended aide of the Ogun Governor facing wire fraud charges in the United States. Justice Tijjani Ringim made the order sequel to an ex-parte motion filed and argued by a counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) Ebuka Okongwu.
7. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has vowed never to apologise to President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, over his recent criticism of the president’s inability to tackle insecurity. In a statement by his spokesman, Tever Akase, on Tuesday, the governor rebuked Akume for refusing to stand with the people of the state.
8.The Jigawa State Government says one hundred and thirty civil servants died while in active service in the state in the month of July 2021 due to insecurity. Executive Chairman, state and local government contributory pension scheme board, Hashim Adamu Fagam disclosed this while paying benefits of the deceased persons to their families.
9. Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, yesterday dissolved the Warri council of Chiefs and revalidation as Chiefs will commence at Ode Itsekiri, the ancestral home of Itsekiri nation, in Warri South local government area from Thursday.
10. At least 43 people have been killed in an outbreak of cholera in Borno State. Some 559 cases have been reported so far, officials say. Health Commissioner, Juliana Bitrus formally declared the outbreak at a press conference in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Sunday

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
