1. The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), has condemned the current ranking in the country’s police force, in which no Igbo officer is Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) or Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). The group stressed that the region was left with only six Commissioners of Police (CPs).
2. Former Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe has warned the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi against fuelling fresh crisis in the All Progressive Congress, APC in Rivers state. Senator Abe issued the warning while hosting some social media influencers in Port Harcourt. He said the actions of Amaechi which cost the party to lose out of the 2019 General elections is about to re-occur.
3. Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has insisted that he did not give any money to a suspected kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume. Gov. Ishaku stated this while reacting to a claim made by Wadume that he gave him N6million for the elections. Wadume also alleged that the APC gave him N13million ahead of the February 23 presidential election.
4. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday, said that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is a coward for threatening to attack Southeast Governors. It said the IPOB leader was only being desperate. Kanu and his group had threatened to attack Igbo leaders and Southeast Governors abroad. PDP stated that Kanu is not a freedom fighter but a businessman out to make money from Igbo politicians and businessmen.
5. Two suits filed by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State in relation to disputes over the party’s leadership has been dismissed by a Federal High in Abuja. The members had also challenged the mode of primary to be adopted for selecting a candidate for the forthcoming governorship election, which the court also dismissed.
6. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, summoned the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to appear before it over plans to seize the property of the immediate-past Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Abdulaziz Yari. Justice Nkeonye Maha, who made the order after listening to the arguments canvassed in a motion exparte by counsel to Yari, Mahmud Magaji SAN, adjourned the matter till Aug. 30.
7. The Kaduna State government on Monday said it will implement the new national minimum wage from September 2019. The State Executive Council on Monday approved that payment of the new national minimum wage and consequential adjustments to civil servants will begin from 1st September 2019. Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, in a statement explained that the Executive Council meeting, chaired by Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, the Deputy Governor, noted the commitment of Governor Nasir El-Rufai to strengthen the public service and its capacity to deliver quality and responsive public service.
8. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that Nigerians will start paying value-added tax (VAT) on both domestic and international online transactions from January 2020. FIRS executive chairman, Babatunde Fowler made this known on Monday at the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) technical workshop in Abuja.
9. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, on Monday, distanced himself from claims that he ordered the demolition of a mosque in Port Harcourt the state capital. MURIC, had fingered Wike in the demolition of the Trans-Amadi Central Mosque in Port Harcourt, the state capital. Reacting to the development, Wike described the claim as unfortunate. Wike said the claim was the handiwork of mischief makers attempting to create disaffection.
10. The Presidency on Monday said the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari since he arrived Yokohama, Japan, on Monday. Buhari had departed Nigeria yesterday for Japan to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) holding in the City of Yokohama, August 28-30, 2019. However, IPOB alleged that the President was not in Japan, stressing that photographs of Buhari were photoshopped. Responding to the allegation, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, urged Nigerians to disregard the claims by IPOB.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
