The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Tuesday

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has dissolved the Kwara State executive committee of the party. It cited electoral malfeasance in the last ward, local and state congresses as the reason for the dissolution of the committee. The NWC has now asked Mr Bashir Bolarinwa to assume office as the new chairman of the party with immediate effect.
2. The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has reacted to the report of the impeachment notice served on him by eight members of the State House of Assembly on Monday. According to the governor, it’s impossible for just 8 members of the State Assembly to issue him an impeachment notice. He argued that the same Speaker who led the other members to the assembly with the support of the police remain suspended even as there is an existing court order stopping him from coming to the Assembly.
3. The Benue State House of Assembly, Monday suspended for 6 months the 7 members who held an illegal sitting under the leadership of the impeached and suspended Speaker with the help of the police. The suspended members are: Terkimbi ikyange -(Impeached speaker), Adanyi Benjamin, Terhemba Chabo, Benjamin Nungwa, Bem Mngutyo, Adams Okloho, James Okefe, Nick Eworo. The house took the decision in the presence of 18 members with 4 notices of absence.
4. The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have described as “a desecration of the legislative sanctity”, the on-going situation in Benue State in which eight out of the 30 members of the State House of Assembly, Monday commenced impeachment process against the Governor with the support of the police. This was contained in a joint statement signed by their media aides.
5. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has said that the House was concerned about the seeming injustice to the Nigerian public through continuous increment of electricity tariff after the federal government bailed the energy sector with a whopping sum of N123 billion. Dogara was speaking on Monday at a public hearing organised by the House Ad-Hoc Committee to interface with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and other stakeholders.
6. The Kano State deputy governor, Hafiz Abubakar, has petitioned the police and the Department State of Services, DSS, over threat to his life and plans to impeach him. Abubakar, a loyalist of former Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had been at loggerheads with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, for his alleged support for Kwankwaso. In a petition addressed to Kano State police commissioner and copied to the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone I, and the state director of the DSS, Mr. Hafiz Abubakar sought the deployment of security personnel around him.
7. The Imo State House of Assembly Monday impeached the deputy governor of the state, Prince Eze Madumere. Report says 9 of the 27 members impeached the Deputy Governor. This happened despite an existing court order stopping the process.
8. The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has described the Senator representing Nasarawa West, Abdullahi Adamu, as a compulsive liar and an unreliable man. Saraki was reacting to the claim by Adamu that the Senate President once referred to Senator Dino Melaye as “clown” in a private chat with him. Saraki stated that the Senator from Nasarawa State has been peddling insults and lies about him but he has ignored him out of respect for his age.
9. The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Atta, was on Monday impeached. 27 out of the 44 lawmakers endorsed his impeachment. A new Speaker, Alhassan Rurum was immediately sworn in.
10. A coalition of Nigerian Elders has called for the sack of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over the alleged invasion of the residence of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and that of his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu. The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum, MBF, Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, condemned the action of the police. The elders have insisted that the Police boss should immediately be sacked if he did not take instruction from President Muhammadu on his action against the lawmakers.

From Studio to Spotlight: Meet Espago, the 2025 Breakout Artist Shaping Afro‑Fusion

At 31, Lagos-born Espago is redefining what it means to be a late bloomer in the Nigerian music
space. After spending years as a chef, designer, and farmer, Espago turned to music just a year
ago on a journey sparked by deep loss, life experience, and self-discovery.
What makes him different? It’s not just his sound, it’s his story. Espago brings a calm but
confident energy that mirrors his Lagos upbringing: a blend of vibrant Fuji rhythms and soulful
Afrobeat traditions like King Sunny Ade, shaped by global legends like Michael Jackson and
Celine Dion. His voice? Professionally trained. His brand? Stylish, grounded, and intentional.
Espago didn’t wait for the industry to find him; he found his own way in, teaching himself,
searching out producers, and building his identity from scratch. With no major label backing and
no big-name features, he has still built a brand marked by boldness, emotion, and Lagos street
authenticity.
He’s not just making music; he’s building a lifestyle brand. His creative roots are in food,
fashion, and music fused into something richer than just a “sound.” It’s a full experience. While
he hasn’t performed live yet, he’s putting in the work behind the scenes, mentoring new artists,
recording regularly to sharpen his voice and brand for bigger stages ahead.
In a scene dominated by speed, Espago’s journey is about intentional growth, honest
expression, and emotional connection.
As the new class of Afro‑HipHop begins to take shape, Espago stands out not just for what he’s
making, but for who he is becoming.
