1. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned strike over the hike in fuel price as a result of subsidy removal. The union had mobilised for a nationwide strike, asking the Federal Government to revert to the old rate of N197 to prevent the strike.

2. The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to jerk up the minimum wage of workers in the country in order to cushion the effects of subsidy removal. It said that should be done before the end of June in order to implement Petroleum Industry Act, adding that the consequential adjustment on Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) should be considered.

3. The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he is not too big to serve in the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He, however, said he would seek the opinions of his wife and friends to determine whether or not to take up any appointment offer from Tinubu.

4. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday identified security as the pill for economic revival, prosperity and development of Nigeria. He told security and intelligence agencies to ensure the security of the land. He spoke after a tour of the new Office of the National Security Adviser and facilities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja.

5. A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced a pastor, Chidiebere Okoroafor, to death by hanging for murder.
Okoroafor, who is the General Overseer of the Altar of Solution and Healing Assembly based in Oyigbo, Rivers State was tried for killing his choir mistress, Orlunma Nwagba, who he allegedly impregnated.

6. The Rivers State Police Command said its men killed three suspected cultists during a shootout in the Udebu community, the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state on Sunday evening. It was learnt that members of the Iceland and Greenland cult groups terrorising the Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas had mobilised for a supremacy battle when the police stormed the area.

7. Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, on Monday, convened an emergency security meeting over Saturday’s attacks which claimed 37 lives in the northern part of the state. Aliyu who cut short his official visit to Abuja over the attack, vowed to make the state unsafe for bandits and other criminal elements.

8. The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army on Monday in Lagos paraded six suspects said to be impersonating military men. Lieutenant Ayodeji Owoyomi, who spoke on behalf of the Commander, 81 Division Provost Group, Brigadier General Mohammed Abubakar, added that the division was also on the trail of a man who he said was parading himself as a Brigadier General.

9. The member representing Gboko West State Constituency, Aondona Dajoh, Monday, emerged as the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. Dajoh defeated Becky Orpin from the Gboko East State constituency with 17 votes against 15 votes to emerge as the Speaker in the second ballot.

10. The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, yesterday, tendered in exhibits, more certified true copies of polling unit result sheets contained in INEC Form EC8As from eight states of the federation.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
