1. The United Kingdom says it is following the probe of the activities of the outlawed Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
The UK said it was working with stakeholders and has told judicial panels set up by state governments to also look into incidents associated with End SARS protests.
2. The federal government has slammed sanctions on some major broadcast stations, over their coverage of the Lekki shooting and reactions.

The National Broadcasting Station (NBC) on Monday fined Arise News, African Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television between N2 million and N3 million respectivel.
3. Suspected hoodlums on Monday looted a warehouse in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
They made away with cartons of cereals, bales of clothes, bags of rice and millet and other commodities from the warehouse.
4. The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Iganna Local Council Development Area in Oyo State, Comrade Jacob Olayiwola Adeleke, has been kidnapped.

Adeleke and his driver were kidnapped alongside his driver along Okeho-Ado Awaye Road.
5. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has finally said Nigerian Army ordered the shooting of End SARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate.
Sanwo-Olu told CNN that footage available to him shows that the Nigerian Army ordered the shooting, adding that everyone found culpable of the act will be persecuted.
6. Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor, has declared that members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra, IBOP, can’t use the state to launch attacks.

Wike also urged the 23 local government chairmen in the state and youths not to allow IPOB to hold demonstrations and hoist its flag within their jurisdiction in Rivers.
7. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 119 new coronavirus infections in Nigeria.
The health agency said Nigeria now has 62,111 confirmed cases and 57,571 persons have been successfully managed.
8. A pastor in Kogi State, identified as Sunday Edino and his alleged accomplices have been arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly looting medical equipment worth N1.2billion.

The suspected pastor was arrested on Monday in a manhunt led by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ede.
9. The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has raised the alarm over alleged killing of northerners in some Southern part of the country.
The forum also called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency ask the various state governments to set up commissions of inquiry into the alleged recent killings of northerners.

10. Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has taken a swipe at those threatening Nigerian military officers with a travel ban.
The COAS lambasted international organisations clamouring for a ban on top personnel and soldiers over rights abuses.

The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Sunday

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
