1. The Federal Executive Council (FEC), Wednesday, took the final decision on payment of the new national minimum wage to Nigerian workers. The FEC presided over by Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo directed the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, to effect payment of the new minimum wage on or before 31st December, 2019. This was announced by the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige shortly after the meeting at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
2. Justice Inyang Ekwo, of the Federal High Court, Abuja has suspended the planned recruitment of 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.
The Police Service Commission, PSC, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1120/19 had dragged the NPF, the Inspector General of Police, IGP and the Minister of Police Affairs to court as first, second and third respondents, respectively.
3. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Communications as Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications, who made the disclosure on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, said the digital economy had become a global trend and was making meaningful contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
4. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, has said members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will enjoy the new minimum wage.
According to the minister, the NYSC Director-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, will give details of the new monthly allowance in the offing.
5. The Nigeria Police have discovered an illegal reformation home in Adamawa State and freed 15 inmates of the home located at a suburb named Wuro-Hausa in Yola Town of Yola South Local Government Area of the state. Report said the Police found the 15 persons illegally held in the home by an old man who had young people serving as his monitoring agents.
6. Ahead of the November 16 governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advised the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to “accept defeat”, and stop wasting his money.
The opposition party, which urged Governor Bello of the APC to read the “writing on the wall, do himself good by accepting defeat and stop wasting public funds on fruitless campaign”, added that it already has the “support of over 70 percent of registered voters in 18 out of the 21 local governments across the state.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Captain Musa Nuhu as the new Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Nuhu, who was until his appointment, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).will replace Captain Muthar Usman.
8. The Police in Niger State have announced the arrest of one Victor John for allegedly having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in Kontagora town in the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Muhammadu Abubakar, told newsmen in Minna on Wednesday that John, 32, committed the act in Kontagora, headquarters of Kontagora Local Government, saying that the suspect lured the 13-year-old egg hawker into a room in a bakery with N200, where he sexually abused her.
9. A judge of the Federal High Court, Akure, Ondo State, Justice Abdul Dogo, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Dogo was abducted on Tuesday while he was returning to Akure from Abuja. The kidnappers are said to have also made contact and demanded N50 million to release the judge.
10. Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has urged the Senate panel to approve 2.5 per cent as commission for those involved in the recovery of looted assets.
Malami, who made the appeal on Wednesday during the 2020 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Right and Legal Matters, claimed his ministry was progressively making vital recovery of looted funds stashed abroad.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
