Good morning! Here’s today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers
1. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday in Abuja directed all cabinet ministers to remain in office until May 28.
The President, who gave the directive during the valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, however, instructed them to hand over the mantle of leadership of their various ministries to their respective Permanent Secretaries on Tuesday.
2. The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has recused herself from participating in adjudicating petitions challenging the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Zainab, who is also the President of the Appeal Court, made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja after the tribunal had delivered ruling against an application challenging her membership of the tribunal.
3. Aggrieved protesters have given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), up till next Monday to release the Certificate of Return of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha or they will mobilise one million Nigerians to occupy the headquarters of the commission indefinitely.
The protesters issued the ultimatum to INEC yesterday when they besieged the national headquarters of INEC to demand the immediate release of the Okorocha’s certificate of return as senator-elect.
4. The Senate has passed a bill for the establishment of Federal Audit Service Commission.
This is aimed at strengthening the Office of Auditor-General of the Federation in ensuring probity and accountability in government agencies.
5. The Federal Government has confirmed the acquisition of an Amplitude Modulation radio broadcast licence, to reach herdsmen across various locations in the country.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who stated this in Abuja, said the establishment of the radio frequency, was to end the perennial farmers-herders crisis across the country.
6. Eight people have died at the Mbawa Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Benue between January and this month of May.
The Chairman of the camp, Mr. Geoffrey Torgenga, who made the disclosure in Makurdi on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen during a visit to the camp, blamed the deaths on acute hunger and different diseases at the camp, located at Daudu community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue.
7. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday alleged that several of their members were arrested in Enugu State, with their whereabouts unknown.
IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the unspecified numbers of their members were arrested around Nike Area of Enugu State, en-route Nsukka.
8. Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court has issued form 48 against the police and threatened to commit the Inspector General of Police to prison.
In his ruling on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Justice Falola issued form 48 against the police, asking them to take notice of consequence of disobedience of court order, warning them that they would be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.
9. Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has been elected as new Chairman of the Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum.
Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara, who is also the outgoing chairman of the forum disclosed that Fayemi was nominated by Malam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, seconded by the Governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa and unanimously elected by the governors to lead the forum till 2021.
10. Members of the Joint Aviation Unions, who had embarked on industrial action on Wednesday to press home their demands, have reached agreement with the Federal Government and called off the strike.
The National President of ATSSSAN, Mr. Illistrus Ahmadu, who spoke on behalf of the unions, said that agreements were reached with the minister who promised to look into their demands.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
