1. No fewer than 17 persons have been killed and several others injured after suspected herdsmen attacked fishermen in Ebete village, Agatu LGA of Benue State on Wednesday.

Report said that the fishermen were going about their business on the River Benue when the heavily armed herdsmen swooped on them, killing seventeen persons on the spot.

2. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday announced the postponement of the mock examination for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) billed to start on Saturday, February 23.

According to JAMB, the 2019 UTME mock exam was postponed due to the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly elections.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has insisted that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, will not be fielding candidates in the 2019 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who addressed the press in Abuja on Wednesday ahead of the Saturday’s elections, said the commission will obey the pronouncement of the Supreme Court which is the highest court in the country according to the constitution.

4. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to leaked audio, where he was reportedly quoted as bargaining with electorates for their votes in exchange for money.

Tinubu described the video as a wilful defamation, adding that the perpetrators have crossed the line into the impermissible.

5. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has drawn the attention of the international community against President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai over alleged militarisation of the February 23, rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections across the country.

It also cautioned Buratai, to refrain himself from acts or actions that will suggest in any way that the military has become an arm of a political party.

6. The Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr Cyril Omoregbe, has threatened to cancel the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly polls on Saturday

Omoregbe, while briefing journalists in Asaba on preparedness for election, vowed that he will not hesitate to cancel Saturday’s polls if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters delay to send all electoral materials to the state.

7. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, said it has uncovered plot by some desperate politicians to influence the outcome of Saturday polls using vote buying.

The group in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide said in the statement that the OYC discovered a dangerous trend “going on now in the Southeast ahead of the rescheduled presidential election on Saturday 23rd February, 2019.”

8. A prosecution witness, Mr Seun Shuaibu, on Wednesday told a Federal High Court in Lagos that a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenadi Usman, and some others transferred N350 million to former Gov. Achike Udenwa of Imo in 2015.

The witness, an Investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), gave evidence at the resumed trial of Usman, Joint Trust Dimension Ltd. and others facing a N4.6 billion money laundering charge.

9. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned security agencies over the attack on Lola Ashiru, its Senatorial Candidate for Kwara South.

Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC National Publicity Secretary in a statement on Wednesday said the alleged attacks, which occurred in Ojoku town in Kwara South Senatorial District of the state left no fewer than eight persons injured, while two others were shot dead.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday, said it has uncovered an alleged directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue out results sheets to the ruling APC agents to falsify and declare results in favour of the APC.

It also alleged that the INEC chairman, Yakubu Mahmood has succumbed to back channel bullying by the Buhari Presidency.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
