1. The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has claimed that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) are behind his travails. Kyari made this claim when he appeared before a probe panel led by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
2. The sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, on Wednesday, grounded commercial activities in Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, and other cities in the five South-East States. It was observed that major businesses, including banks, motor parks, filling stations, markets, schools and roadside shops were shut, due to the order.
3. Northern groups, comprising the Coalition of Northern Groups in Nigeria (CNG) and the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) have described as ‘unacceptable’ the attack on Northerners at the cattle market in Abia State, which claimed the lives of eight people on Tuesday.
4. The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has said that he is surprised by the decision of ASUU to embark on a one-month strike. He said this on Wednesday while fielding questions from State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja.
5. Many filling stations in Nigeria are still not dispensing Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, a development that worsened the nationwide PMS scarcity and paralysed activities across the country, on Wednesday, particularly in Abuja, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Kano, Ogun States, among others.
6. The Lagos State Government has accepted 26 recommendations of the Toyin Ayinde-led panel that investigated the collapse of a 21-storey building in the Ikoyi area of the State. According to the recommendation, existing two 15-storey buildings still standing at the site of the collapse on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi should be demolished and the land forfeited to the State government.
7. An unidentified man has reportedly slumped and died at a hotel in Ada George in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State after alleged sex romp with his female partner. It was gathered that the incident occurred a few hours after the duo checked into the hotel in the wee hours of Wednesday.
8. Embattled DCP Abba Kyari and four others may spend more time in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, as the NDLEA has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja informing the court of its intention to detain the suspects beyond the stipulated 48 hours. It was learnt that the NDLEA has already begun a forensic analysis of the cocaine seized by Kyari.
9. Josephine Oboh-Macleod, the Secretary to BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) has been given the Conservatives and the Unionist Party ticket to run for the 2022 councillorship elections in Kirkintilloch North, East and Twacher.
10. No fewer than five Boko Haram informants, food and logistics suppliers were apprehended in Mandaragirau village of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. This is even as the suspects were on Wednesday handed over to the authorities of Abogo Largema Military Cantonment, Biu in Borno State, for further action.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
