1. The Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday approved the sum of N621.2bn for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to handle the reconstruction of 21 federal roads across the six geopolitical zones of the country. The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, announced this on Wednesday, while briefing State House reporters after the federal cabinet meeting presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

2. A former minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Dr Abba Sayyadi Ruma, is dead. Confirming the demise of Ruma, his uncle and Danwairen Katsina, Alhaji Sada Salisu Ruma, said late Sayyadi had battled diabetes for a long time before he eventually passed away on Wednesday.

3. Mr Uche Okafor, Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, said that defection of some members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is so inconsequential to rob the ruling party of victory in the Nov. 6 polls. Okafor said that in a democratic setting as practiced in Nigeria, people are free to enjoy political freedom so as to drive dividends of democracy to the public.

4. President Muhammadu’s request to borrow $700 million has been rejected by the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt chaired by Senator Uba Sani on Wednesday. Members of the Committee faulted the idea of seeking loan to fund sustainable urban and rural water supply, sanitation and hygiene, noting that there were enough loans which the country has been servicing.

5. Retired Maj.-Gen Saleh Maina yesterday, said the insecurity in Nigeria will not drag into the next federal administration. He spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at a roundtable on Internal Security Management organised by Cleen Foundation.

6. No fewer than seven villagers have been killed in an attack on Yanbuki community in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State by suspected armed bandits. The Zamfara Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

7. The Police Command in Kogi State has confirmed that six people were killed with some houses burnt by unknown gunmen in a Monday morning attack on Bagana community of Omala Local Government in the State. The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Idrisu Dabban, confirmed the incident to newsmen after a visit to the area.

8. The national leadership of the Labour Party, on Wednesday, said it was yet to endorse another candidate for the Anambra State gubernatorial elections slated for November 6. The Labour party’s leadership spoke yesterday in Abuja through its Acting Secretary General, Joseph Ndirang.

9. Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said that the commission is ready for the Nov. 6 governorship election in Anambra State. He said this at a meeting with the Joint National Assembly Committee on INEC and Electoral Matters that engaged with the commission over the forthcoming election in Abuja on Wednesday.

10. Barcelona have parted ways with coach Ronald Koeman after a series of losses that includes a 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday. Club President, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano that left the club languishing in 9th position on the league table.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
