1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Babalele Abdullahi, son-in-law and Finance Director of group of companies owned by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Paul Ibe, Media aide to Atiku Abubakar, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday. According to him, the arrest was part of the plot to make Atiku concede the result of the just concluded election.

2. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, inaugurated his legal team to challenge the result of the 23 February presidential election. The Wazirin Adamawa vowed that he would use every legal means to secure victory. A statement made signed by his spokesman, Paul Ibe, said the team is headed by Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN.

3. Corps members deployed as ad hoc staff of INEC will not be allowed to work in security-challenged areas in the country, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said. Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, said corps members would not be posted to work as ad-hoc staff for the March elections in any state or area of the Federation that had been adjudged as having security challenges.

4. Ahmed Maiyaki, spokesman to immediate past Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement on Saturday by Maiyaki, he said the decision was made after consulting with his family and dissecting the development plans of the two candidates of the ruling APC, Governor Nasir El-Rufai and opposition PDP Isa Ashiru Kudan, ahead of March 9, governorship election in Kaduna.

5. Retired General, Ibrahim Babangida, former Military President, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 presidential election. In a statement he signed on Saturday, IBB congratulated the Nigerian electorate for conducting themselves peacefully during the voting process and also tasked the president on immediate action on security, the economy and others.

6. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said: “the fabrication being peddled by the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is making some demands from President Muhammadu Buhari, ‘’is absolute falsehood and outright lies”. Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP National Publicity Secretary, in a statement on Saturday, stated that Abubakar had not, and will never, make or accept any condition from President Buhari regarding the rigged February 23, 2019, Presidential election.

7. Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) has confirmed that a trainer aircraft crashed in Kaduna on Friday. The institution said this in a release posted on its website Saturday afternoon. NCAT, however, explained that the pilot and other occupants were in good condition.

8. About six persons have been reportedly killed and eight others injured by unknown gunmen who attacked Sabon Sara village in Kidandan of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Report has it that the gunmen stormed the village at about 1.30am in the early hours of Saturday in their efforts to kidnap one Alhaji Na Sidi, a seasoned farmer in the village.

9. Major opposition parties in Oyo State on Saturday adopted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde ahead of the March 9th election in the State. The leaders of the opposition parties including Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) adopted Makinde at their meeting held in Ibadan the state capital.

10. Nigerian activist, Deji Adeyanju who just regained his freedom after 78-days in prison has told President Muhammadu Buhari to be ready for another next four years of criticisms. Adeyanju who arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday after his time in Kano prison vowed to remain committed to holding government accountable and speaking the truth to power all the time. According to him, his detention was “Vitamin C that re-energised and refreshed his activism’ spirit towards the government.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
