1. Ten more students abducted by bandits from the Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Kaduna State have been released. But a senior official of the school told newsmen that the students were released after an undisclosed amount of money was paid to the bandits.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja for New York, United States of America, on Sunday. The president will participate in the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76). In a statement issued on Saturday, Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the President will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor.

3. More than four high tension towers that supply electricity from Damaturu to Maiduguri in Borno State have been blown up again by suspected members of Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP). The incident happened in Garin Kuturu village, which is about two kilometers away from Auno.

4. One person has been confirmed dead with several others kidnapped after unknown gunmen attacked Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The spokesperson of the state’s police command, ASP Sunusi Abubakar, who confirmed the attack to newsmen on Saturday, said the incident occurred on Friday evening.

5. The Inspector General of Police, IG Usman Baba Alkali has called on officers and men of the Force in the country to get married to themselves to strengthen the service. Speaking during his one-day working visit to the Niger State Police Command in Minna, Alkali urged the personnel to put aside the idea of looking for good husbands and wives outside and start searching inwards.

6. Police timely intervention have saved the life of one Mr Akinlolu Ajayi, 54-year-old staff of Lagos State Government, who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the lagoon. The Lagos Police Spokesman, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said in a statement on Saturday that the incident happened on Wednesday at about 9.25 a.m.

7. Arewa Youth Assembly has petitioned the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate its former Speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami over attacks on the federal government’s economic policies. In the petition signed by its new speaker, Tahir Muhammad Azare, the assembly said that the impeached former Speaker, Danlami was still going about mobilizing his cronies to discredit President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic policies and carry out smear campaign against the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

8. Gunmen in the early hours of Saturday killed two people in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. Witnesses said the armed men invaded the community, a rural commercial town at 6am and in the process killed the two people and went away with one person.

9. Police arrested about 259 suspects over banditry, kidnapping, culpable homicide, rape, farmers/herders’ conflicts and other crimes in Niger State in August. Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Monday Kuryas spoke in an interview in Minna on Saturday that the crimes were committed in 25 local government areas of the state.

10. No fewer than seven civil servants have been arrested following diversion of insecticide-treated nets in Gombe State. Confirming the arrest of the men under the employment of Kwami LGA Primary Healthcare and Billiri LGA Primary Healthcare, on Saturday, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, said they were nabbed following tip-off by residents.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
