1. A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna on Friday fixed July, 6, 2017 for judgement on the N2bn suit filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky against the Nigerian Army, the Attorney General of the Federation and Kaduna State Government. El-Zakzaky had dragged the Nigerian Army, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Yusuf Buratai, Attorney General of the Federation, AGG, and the Kaduna State government before the Federal High over the alleged killings of Shiite members,, including his three children and dedestruction of the house
2. The Army has confirmed that it lost an officer and three soldiers in Borno on Thursday when their patrol vehicle encountered IED buried on the road between Kangarwa and Alagarno village. The Army Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, while giving an update on troops’ clearance operations in the North-East between Tuesday and Thursday.
3. It has now been confirmed that Funke Akindele is pregnant with a set of twins. Akindele’s husband, JJC, while confirming the report said, twin genes run in his family and that they are expecting to have them.
4. The Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku community in Umuahia north local government area of Abia State on Thursday dissociated themselves from the call for succession as being championed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, pledging their support and loyalty to a united and indivisible Nigeria. The community in a press release also raised the alarm over alleged invasion of the community by IPOB members.
5. The remains of late Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli, were buried on Friday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital amid tears. Ikoli died in April this year, in a controversial circumstance at his official residence on No. 8B Roycroft Street, Apapa GRA, Lagos, just seven months after he was promoted from the rank of a navy commodore to that of a rear admiral.
6. The Federal Government has said it will soon commence the local manufacturing of power transformers and solar panels in commercial quantity across the country. This was announced in Abuja by the Executive Vice Chairman of National Agency For Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mohammed Haruna on Friday.
7. An Abuja court Friday cleared Andy Uba of allegation of certificate forgery, saying the Senator was eligible to contest any election in the country with his O’level’s certificate. In a ruling that lasted for over two hours, the presiding Judge, Valentine Ashi, held that, the Plaintiff failed to discharge the burden of proof bestowed on him, and so his suit stands dismissed.
8. A Nigerian based in the United States of America, Mr. Toyin Dawodu, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking it to compel the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to appoint a medical panel to determine the health status of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari.
9. The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has named Nigerians against the ongoing calls for restructuring of the country. Those named to be stopping same are President Buhari, el-Rufai, Ango Abdullahi, Lai Mohammed and Tanko Yakassai.
10. Report has claimed that residents of Ikorodu have apprehended and lynched a suspect accused of belonging to the group. According to the report, the suspect was caught at Igbo Oluwo, brutally beaten and set ablaze by angry residents after the killing of a couple and two of their three children.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
