1. Saidu Kolaku, the zonal vice chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Adamawa State was shot dead on Saturday. Kolaku was confirmed dead after unknown gunmen stormed the resident of the Fulani leader located at Sabon Pegi in Mayo Belwa Local Government and shot him. His death was confirmed by the police spokesman in Adamawa State, Sulaiman Nguroje in a statement.
2. Against the backdrop of the Thursday’s killing of a priest in Enugu State, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Dr. Callistus Onaga, has called on the government to as a matter of urgency flush out “bad Fulanis” from the state. Bishop Onaga, while speaking after a special holy mass by the Catholic fateful held at Holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu, on Sunday, said such step would stem the tide of killings, kidnapping and rape of women in the state.
3. Chief Mike Ahamba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer before he (Buhari) emerged president in 2015, has declared that the President has failed. Ahamba, who was Buhari’s lawyer during his numerous attempts at the presidency before he eventually won in 2015, said nobody can count himself safe in this country anymore. According to the elder statesman, it was quite unfortunate that after accusing former President Goodluck Jonathan of being weak in 2015, Buhari himself has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
4. The Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa on Saturday confirmed the death of another Nigerian, Benjamin Simeon, in South Africa. The 43-year-old Simeon who hails from Okposi in Ebonyi State, was allegedly shot by yet to be unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Saturday in Johannesburg, a city in South Africa. The victim was said to have been killed almost immediately after dropping off his clients in a part of the city.
5. Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, on Sunday returned to preaching on the pulpit. Fatoyinbo pulled a large crowd on Sunday as members were seen screaming and jubilating as he climbed the stage for the first time since Busola Dakolo accused him of raping her.
6. A new Commander for the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Muhammed Takuti Usman, will assume duties on Monday, August 5. The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Haruna Tagwai, announced this in a statement on Sunday. The Guard Brigade is an elite brigade of the Nigerian Army responsible for protecting the President of Nigeria. The Brigade members guard the residence of the President and his guests, as well as perform ceremonial duties.
7. The 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, on Sunday stated that he will keep speaking for millions of Nigerians who are victims of President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged misrule. Atiku spoke in response to allegations by the Presidency that he was pursuing his selfish interest at the expense of Nigerians. The former Vice President charged Buhari to address concrete issues of misgovernment and the devastation his administration has caused Nigerians.
8. Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Sunday condemned the Buhari government over the arrest of Omoyele Sowore. He described the act by the Department of State Service (DSS), as “a terrorist midnight arrest.” Soyinka said the “deployment of alarmist expressions” such as “treason,” “anarchist,” and “public incitement” by security agents was predictable and banal and that the expressions have become meaningless.
9. The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday confirmed that its operatives arrested Omoyele Sowore. DSS said Sowore was taken into custody because he called for a revolution in Nigeria. It added that the secret police received information that Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria.
10. Big Brother Naija housemate, Jeff was evicted from the “Pepper Dem edition” on Sunday. Jeff was evicted during Live eviction show hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. Four housemates, Tacha, Jeff, Omashola and Mike were nominated for eviction this week However Jeff had the lowest vote which led to his was eviction.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
