1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, responded to claims that he was cloned.
Buhari, who was speaking in Poland, stated that some people were hoping he would die during his ill health. He refuted the claimed that he is ‘Jubril from Sudan’ as alleged in many quarters and promised to celebrate his 76th birthday soon.
2. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed three youths and a woman as his aides.
The new appointees of the former Vice President are: Dr Ahmed Adamu, Special Assistant (Youth and Strategy); Aliyu Bin Abbas, Special Assistant (Youth Support Groups); Phrank Shuaibu, Special Assistant (Public Communications); and Mrs Funmi Lamuye, Special Assistant (South-West).
3. Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has said presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku will suffer a ‘bloodied nose’ in the 2019 presidential election against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dambazzau said Atiku will be defeated in Adamawa, Gombe and other Northern states in 2019, adding that the former Vice President is no match for President Muhammadu Buhari
4. The National Christian Elders Forum, NCEF, has reacted to the purported dissolution of the Forum by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
NCEF described the dissolution of its forum as a nullity and urged Christians across the country to disregard the statement credited to the leadership of the CAN.
4. Police command in Cross River State has gunned down five notorious armed robbers. The robbers robbed U. D. King filling stations at Atu Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday by 11.15 am.
Parading the dead robbers at the Atakpa Police Division in Calabar, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz said that the criminals have been on police list of wanted criminals.
5. The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Sunday disclosed that people of the state have resolved to “resist any form of intimidation and rigging during the 2019 general elections”.
Addressing newsmen shortly after a special Church service in Jos, Plateau State, Ortom said people of the state will confront anyone who tries to rig or manipulate elections in the state.
6. A Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Bala Rabo Ayaga, has defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, PDP.
Ayaga, claimed that APC was no longer a party that could lead Nigerians to the promise land, adding that the ruling party had performed far below their expectations.
7. Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has insisted that his Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) is intact.
Atiku’s Special Assistant, Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, insisted that Gov. Nyesom Wike’s purported resignation was “speculative”.
8. The General Overseer of the Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala-Itura, Prophet Samuel Abiara, has called for prayers to avert looming disaster during the 2019 elections.
Abiara warned that danger was lurking around the 2019 general elections.
8. National Assembly staff under the aegis of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), have fixed Dec. 4 to stage a protest over unpaid salaries and allowances.
Mr Suleiman Haruna, the union’s Secretary-General, who announced this in a statement in Abuja, said the first phase of the protest would take place between Dec. 4 and Dec. 8.
9. The branch chairman Academic staff Union of Universities Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi Dr Adamu Mohammad Babayo has slammed the Federal government’s directive on no work, no pay to its members on nation-wide strike.
Babayo described the FG directive no work, no pay as laughable and a move to mortgage the future of Nigerian youths particularly, the less privileged.
10. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has said the ‘no work, no pay’ policy by the Federal Government, is not applicable to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who are currently on strike.
Falana said the FG acting through the National Universities Commission (NUC), lacks the powers to direct vice-chancellors to seize the salaries and allowances of striking lecturers.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
