1. Barely 72 hours after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked officials of the Borno State government on their way to Baga from Monguno, the sect has struck again.
The terrorist group ambushed the governor’s convoy while returning home between Monguno and Maiduguri on Sunday.
2. The Federal government and the Nigerian Labour Congress have reached an agreement on electricity tariff and the planned industrial action has been suspended.
The new agreement, according to the Minister of Labour and Employment (State), Festus Keyamo involves the suspension of the new electricity tariff hike for two weeks.
3. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has condemned the attack on the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, by Boko Haram insurgents last Friday.
Adamu, in a statement signed by the Force spokesperson, DCP Frank Mba, on Sunday, said he has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Medical Services, Olubunmi Ogunsanwo, to work with the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Bello Makwashi and the Police Health Maintenance Organisation, towards ensuring adequate medical care for the officers injured during the attack.
4. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the fresh attacks on two convoys of Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno along Maiduguri Baga Road, by Boko Haram insurgents, resulting in the death of security operatives attached to the governor.
The party in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan said the repeated attacks on the governor as well as the rising wave of terrorist attacks, was a sign of security compromises and lapses in the country.
5. Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has called on the federal government to intensify efforts against the insurgent group, Boko Haram.
In a press release by his media aide, Mr Val Obienyem, Obi urged the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and intensify efforts against terrorism in the country, describing the attack on Zulum, a serving governor as shocking.
6. The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 15 teenagers over alleged involvement in immoral acts in Kano City.
The Public Relations Officer of the board, Mallam Lawal Ibrahim, in a statement on Sunday in Kano, said the suspects were apprehended on Sept. 20, around midnight at a club known in Nassarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
7. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that 13 suspected Boko Haram members, alongside six women and 17 children from Kodila village have surrendered.
The sect members surrendered to soldiers at Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, according to the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major-General John Enenche.
8. The Islamic organization, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has advised the handlers of South-West security outfit, Amotekun, to recruit Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) members.
MURIC Director, Ishaq Akintola, in a statement on Monday, said OPC was the only known group that confronted the military during the June 12 struggle.
9. The former Kano State Chief Judge, Justice Shehu Atiku, is dead.
Justice Shehu Atiku’s death was confirmed by the spokesman of the Kano Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim.
10. Big Brother Naija housemate, Laycon, on Sunday emerged the winner of the reality show.
Laycon emerged winner after scoring the highest votes, defeating Dorathy, Nengi, Vee and Neo to covet the grand price in the ‘lockdown edition of the show.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
