1. Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari and the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on Thursday, appraised the war against different forms of terrorism in Nigeria, and agreed that the judicial process be allowed to run its course. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina made this known in a statement on Thursday evening.

2. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on Thursday, ordered the review of the allegation against Abba Kyari, Deputy Commissioner of Police by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI. This was contained in a statement by the Force spokesman, Frank Mba.

3. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and major telecoms companies have agreed on instruments necessary for the deployment of 5G technology in the country. The agreement followed a Public Inquiry organised by the NCC on the two key instruments at its headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

4. Some bandits who attempted to abduct a pregnant woman in Sokoto State have been shot dead. Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this during a briefing at Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

5. A United States court has issued a warrant of arrest for super detective Abba Kyari. In a court document, Otis Wright of the US District Court for the Central District of California ordered Federal Bureau of Investigation to track down Kyari and produce him in the US for his alleged role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi and his co-conspirators.

6. Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have invaded Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning in Lafia, and catered away the sum of N100 million. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident.

7. An attempt by armed robbers to attack a bank bullion van in Ondo State has been foiled. Spokesman of the Ondo Police command, DSP Tee-Leo Ikoro who confirmed the incident, said the move by the robbers was repelled.

8. The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau, has said the state assembly is planning to proceed with an impeachment proceeding against him despite the restriction imposed on the lawmakers by a court. Briefing newsmen at his office on Thursday, the deputy governor said the action of the lawmakers is tantamount to a flagrant breach of law.

9. The Presidency has said the executive and legislative arms of government are not supposed to have differences but to work together for the common good of Nigerians and the country. Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Reps), Umar el-Yakub stated this in Abuja on Thursday at a press conference.

10. The JAMB has rescheduled examination for more than 18,000 candidates who experienced biometric verification challenges and those who genuinely missed the just-concluded UTME due to clash with 2022 National Business and Technical Examinations Board examination. JAMB Spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, made this known in a statement on Thursday

The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Sunday

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
