1. Fifteen persons were injured, with several cars and other property destroyed in Thursday’s gas tanker explosion in Lagos.
The incident occurred at Balogun Bus Stop in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area in the State.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, has insisted that Nigeria is not building a rail line into Niger Republic.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Shehu clarified the rail line will stop at the designated border point, saying that this was part of an agreement reached between both nations in 2015 and coordinated by the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for Cooperation.
3. The Kogi State Government has declared two days of mourning for the 23 victims of Wednesday’s tanker explosion in Felele, Lokoja.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, who made the announcement in a statement released in Lokoja on Thursday, urged residents of the state to use the two-day mourning period for a sober reflection as well as pray for the victims and their relations.
4. The Abia State Government has announced reopening of primary and secondary schools in the State on Monday, 28th September, 2020, to complete the 3rd term of 2019/2020 academic session with one week of revision classes.
In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, after the State Executive Council Meeting held at the Banquet hall of Government House, Umuahia, Thursday, the State Government disclosed that the third term (promotion) examination which is expected to start from Monday, 5th October to Friday, 16th October, 2020, will be used to assess pupils/students based on the tutorial from first and second term, as well as the radio and television classroom program.
5. The UK Government has said it is surprised by the federal government’s stance, that it would consider disrespectful to Nigeria’s sovereignty, for any outside authority to sit in judgment over the conduct of its citizens and apply punitive measures such as visa restriction, unilaterally.
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, stated this while speaking at an orientation programme for people with disability seeking Chevening scholarship opportunities in the United Kingdom.
6. The Nigerian presidency has reacted to the letter from UK lawmakers, legal experts and campaigners.
A statement on Thursday by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, told them to work with Buhari and not fall for propaganda.
7. The Gombe State Government has approved the reopening of schools across the State, after six months of COVID-19 break.
Dr Habu Dahiru, Commissioner of Education, disclosed this in a press briefing in Gombe on Thursday.
8. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the appeal filed by the United Peoples Congress (UPC) and its governorship candidate, Stephen Ibiene, against the election of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Justice Adzira Mshella, who led other justices to deliver judgement, in a unanimous decision, said the suit lacked diligent prosecution.
9. The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of 11 people in an auto crash on Thursday in Calabar, Cross River State.
Sector Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander Matthew Egbe, told newsmen that the sad incident occurred along the Calabar-Mbarakom-Awi highway.
10. The National Industrial Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on a nationwide strike.
On Thursday, Justice Ibrahim Galadima said the order was pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
