1. No fewer than 23 persons have been killed in a robbery attack that took place in a commercial bank in Isanlu area of Kogi State on Thursday.
It was gathered that the suspected armed robbers numbering about seven came into the bank with two vehicles, killing about seven security operatives on duty alongside some passersby.
2. The federal government has made it clear it would not hesitate to review the reopening of churches and mosques if its guidelines are not adhered to.
The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, stated this on Thursday during their daily briefing in Abuja.
3. No fewer than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Kwara North Senatorial district of the state, on Thursday, defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Alhaji Manzuma Abdulmalik Kawodogo, who led the group, said they defected to the umbrella party due to the intra-party conflict and crisis among the leaders and members, allegedly “caused by non-adherence to the party’s constitution.”
4. Latter Rain Assembly President, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has warned that Churches may soon be empty.
He noted that the church is a body that is required in these trying times to show up for its members.
5. Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in some parts of Minna, capital of Niger State, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The downpour that came with ice drops started at about 8am and lasted 45 minutes, but left a lot of destruction behind it.
6. Suspected bandits attacked villages in Talata Marafa and Maru Local Government Areas of Zamfara State on Wednesday, killing about 25 people.
Report had it that the armed men invaded Awala village and went away with herds of cattle and other domestic animals. Thereafter, they went to neighbouring communities to rustle cattle but were not lucky as they met stiff resistance from the residents.
7. Two persons have died after a trailer reportedly knocked them to death at Oghara Community, Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s hometown in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that a commercial motorcyclist also sustained serious injuries as a result of the fatal accident.
8. The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said a decision on the reopening of schools in the state, will be made in the next two weeks.
Sanwo-Olu during a media briefing on Thursday afternoon, made it clear that “the state government will enforce compliance with all safety precautions”.
9. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on Thursday announced that Nigeria recorded 350 new COVID-19 cases.
The NCDC in a tweet said Lagos recorded 102 cases, while Ogun followed with 34.
10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that patients who stop showing coronavirus symptoms —fever and respiratory, will be discharged without waiting for a laboratory negative test.
Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who spoke at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, in Abuja, said for symptomatic patients, they may now be discharged at least 10 days after symptoms onset and at least three days without symptoms.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
