TechLearn to Train 1,500 Nigerians in Tech Skills Over Five Years
In a bold move to bridge the digital skills gap and empower Nigeria’s growing youth population, TechLearn, a prominent technology education initiative, has announced its plan to train over 1,500 Nigerians in critical technology skills over the next five years.
The non-profit initiative, spearheaded by renowned tech advocate Mr. Kingsley Nwosu, is focused on equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through a structured, cohort-based bootcamp, participants will receive hands-on training in high-demand fields such as software development, product management, and UI/UX design.
“Our vision is to create a generation of tech-savvy Nigerians who can compete on a global scale and, more importantly, solve local problems using technology,” said Mr. Kingsley Nwosu. “With this program, we’re building more than just skills—we’re building futures.”
Highlighting the initiative’s unique approach, Mr. Kingsley, Founder of TechLearn, one of the program’s key collaborators, noted that trainees will also be exposed to the business side of technology.
“Beyond learning how to code or design, participants will gain valuable insight into how Broadshift built and manages its diverse portfolio of digital products and services,” he said. “This is essential for understanding how to scale ideas into viable tech businesses.”
The training will be delivered in six phases, with each cohort receiving personalized mentorship, real-world project experience, and access to resources needed to succeed. Training locations will include designated centers across Lagos State, including TechLearn’s corporate office in Ogba.
“Already, we have trained 250 individuals, and the impact has been phenomenal,” Nwosu shared. “Many of our alumni have gone on to establish their own startups, freelance as developers and designers, and even train others in their communities. They’re becoming modern-day entrepreneurs who are using technology to change lives.”
Nwosu also underscored the importance of supporting Nigeria’s small business sector through digital transformation. “A major challenge facing many SMEs in Nigeria is the lack of online presence and digital platforms to showcase their brand value or connect with their customers,” he explained.
“Some businesses have no websites or social media platforms, making it difficult for them to engage with the public or market their services effectively. Our program is designed to change that by training millennial developers who will help these small businesses build a digital footprint.”
Looking ahead, TechLearn envisions a future where Nigeria has a robust network of locally trained, globally competitive web developers and digital professionals who can meet the rising demand for technology services in both the public and private sectors.
“We’re not just training individuals to get jobs—we’re training them to create jobs, solve problems, and lead Africa’s digital transformation,” Nwosu concluded. “This initiative is a step toward building an inclusive digital economy, where everyone has a chance to participate and thrive.”
