1. Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana, has said that the Middle Belt minorities will not follow the North if Nigeria breaks up.
Gana, who berated Northern youths over the ultimatum given to Igbos, slammed a former Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University and the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, for supporting the quit notice issued by the northern youths.
2. Former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okupe anchored his reason for resignation on ground that the PDP has been embroiled in a fratricidal internal crisis brought upon it by itself.
3. Nigerian rapper, based in the United States, Speed Darlington has claimed that Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has passed on.
According to Darlington, who also declared interest to be the first President of Biafra, the ‘death’ of Buhari is a call for celebration.
4. State governors and members of the National Assembly from the South-East, the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, traditional and religious leaders and other leaders of thought from the zone have declared that Ndigbo stands for a “united Nigeria.”
A communique issued at their meeting in Enugu, stated that the Igbo leaders concluded that the Igbo were in “full support” of a united Nigeria.
5. Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, again, on Sunday, left Nigeria for London in the United Kingdom, to visit her husband, Muhammadu Buhari, who has been receiving medical attention in the British capital since May 7.
She will however have a stop over in Addis Abba, Ethiopia, before continuing her journey to London on Tuesday.
6. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has announced that the price of Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, has dropped further from between N175 and N200 per litre.
The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, attributed the crash in price to the recent strategic intervention of the national oil firm.
7. Acclaimed Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has explained why he is flouting his bail conditions.
Kanu claimed that his reason is because Buhari has not been held to account first for flouting all the court orders to free him, free El-Zakzaky, Igbo musician Bight Chimezie and others who are still being detained by the Department of State Services, DSS.
8. Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Education has refuted reports of a purported directive issued to Schools in Lagos State to conduct Assembly in the Yoruba language on Thursdays.
The Education Ministry told the public that Lagos State Government does not implement policies without far-reaching consultations and communication with relevant stakeholders and therefore enjoined members of the public to disregard such stories trending on social media platforms.
9. The Coalition of Arewa youths has expressed its readiness to step aside the quit notice it issued on Igbos residing in the North.
They said this was because some South east leaders are now making their position clear on the secession agenda of youths in the region.
10. Germany last night defeated Chile by a lone goal in the final of the Confederation Cup at St. Petersburg. Lars Stindl’s goal gave the European side the trophy.

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.
2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.
3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.
4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.
5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.
6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.
7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.
8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.
9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.
10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
