1. The embattled former Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie Tuesday returned three out of the four official vehicles in her possession to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kabiri Adjoto,

She assured that the fourth car will be returned soon.

2. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting (FEC) will not hold today.

According to him, the meeting was canceled by President Muhammadu Buhari, because the Eid-el-KABIR holiday deprived the ministers adequate time to prepare the documents for the meeting.

3. The Naira on Tuesday appreciated against the dollar at the parallel market.

The Nigerian currency gained N1 to exchange at N364 to the dollar, stronger than N365 posted on Friday, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N470 and N430.

4. The Biafra National Guard, BNG, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari died long ago, adding that the current president is a “product of plastic surgery.”

BNG leader, Innocent Orji, maintained that the current Nigerian president is an “impostor.”

5. The Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted the request seeking to serve court processes on Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) through substituted service.

The court, however, ordered that other respondents in the matter, namely: the Inspector-General of Police, the Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Attorney-General of the Federation be served personally.

6. The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, on Tuesday said Nigeria’s economy snapped out of its first recession in 25 years as Gross Domestic Product, GDP, returned to positive growth.

NBS disclosed that the nation’s GDP grew by 0.55 per cent in real terms in the second quarter of 2017.

7. Commissioner of Police, Benue State command, Mr. Bashir Makama has issued quit notice to criminal elements in the state.

According to him, it was either they left the state or got ready to meet their waterloo, stressing that the state would not longer accommodate any criminal element.

8. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has announced that there is no threat of food insufficiency in the country.

According to him, in spite of the outbreak of armyworm that has affected most of the states, the country does not have the threat of food insufficiency, but high cost of food items in the market.

9. Renowned musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face, Tuesday visited and donated assorted relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Makurdi, Benue.

Idibia, accompanied by wife, Mrs Annie Idibia and his friends, said that his prompt response to the plight of the displaced persons was to let them know that he, his family and friends were solidly behind them.

10. Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has expressed shocks and disappointment over the strike embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

Ngige said the Federal Government was shocked by the sudden u-turn by the leadership of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) after it has reached a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Federal Ministry of Health on its 6-points demand.

The Newspapers – Things You Need To Know This Sunday

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
