1. The Senate, on Thursday, adjourned plenary till Jan. 16, for the Christmas and New Year break.

This followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC Yobe), at plenary and seconded by Sen. Philip Aduda (PDP-FCT) on behalf of the minority.

2. A Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, on Thursday declared that it will on Tuesday 29th January 2019, formally endorse the candidature of President Muhammadu Buhari as its preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The group made this known shortly after its meeting held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

3. Suspected armed bandits have killed at least 25 people in attacks on two villages in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents claimed that a motor bike-riding gang of armed men opened fire on locals harvesting sweet potatoes on their farms at Garin Halilu village, killing nine on the spot in the afternoon.

4. The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi has revealed what makes him sad about Nigeria.

Obi said that the recent report of over 87 million Nigerians being out of job was a sad one.

6. The national chairman of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus says Nigeria under the watch of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has collapsed.

The national chairman lamented the rising level of insecurity in the country, which he said led to the assassination of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh.

7. Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central has reacted to the All Progressives Congress, APC’s allegation of procuring Russian hackers to penetrate Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, servers ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Sani said such allegation by the ruling party is ‘an excuse’, as it is untenable for Russia to meddle with 2019 election.

8. South-South Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Port Harcourt on Thursday paraded 10 persons for alleged involvement in internet fraud.

EFCC’s coordinator in the zone, Mr. Naghe Obono-Itam, told reporters that the suspects impersonated American soldiers fighting in Afghanistan to defraud some American citizens.

9. The House of the Representatives, on Thursday urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Yussuf Bitchi, to hasten the hunt for the killers of former Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh.

The call to action by the lawmakers followed the adoption of a motion moved under matter of public urgent importance titled “need to investigate the killing of Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh” by Hon. Abdulrahman Shuaibu Abubakar at the plenary on Thursday.

10. The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Pharaohs of Egypt will play each other in a friendly encounter on March 26, 2019.

The Egyptian Football Federation confirmed this on their official Twitter handle on Thursday.

1. President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast today, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this in a statement, on Saturday, saying the broadcast would hold at 7am.

2. The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Yusuf Lawal, on Saturday confirmed the killing of four persons along Baga Road in Maiduguri, Borno State during the nationwide #EndBadGoverment protest. He said Boko Haram elements infiltrated the protesters and killed four persons on Thursday with explosives at a filling station.

3. Many persons have been feared killed while others sustained injuries as hoodlums clashed with security operatives in Kano. It was gathered that Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna to Bachirawa areas in Fagge Local Government, Kofar Nassarawa in Kano municipal and Unguwa Uku area of Tarauni Local Government are the worst hit areas.

4. The leadership of the organised labour, on Saturday, warned the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces to stop what it described as a “massacre” of protesters carrying out nationwide demonstrations against hunger in the land.

5. Leading Human Rights group, Amnesty International Nigeria, has said over 50 protesters were arrested in Abuja on the third day of the demonstration against hardship in the land.

6. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has urged the police and other security agencies to stop shooting and killing protesters demanding good governance in Nigeria. Atiku in a statement on Saturday, questioned the professionalism of the security agencies in the handling of the ongoing demonstrations.

7. Some of the organisers and supporters of the ongoing protest have set up pages to raise over N4bn through GoFundMe, a popular online crowdfunding platform. A check on Saturday showed that a total of N4.1bn had been benchmarked to be donated through accounts created by three GoFundMe users.

8. Tragedy struck again in Imo State on Saturday evening when some gunmen reportedly shot dead the President-General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, Hyginus Ohazurike. Six village heads from the autonomous community were also allegedly killed by the gunmen.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh has said his men were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT. In a viral video, a man claimed that police, while dispersing protesters, shot dead a teenager in the Kubwa area.

10. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu has said President Bola Tinubu is keeping an eye on the ongoing #EndBadGovernance demonstrations across the country.
