Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first club hat-trick of the season and his 43rd for Real Madrid as his side cruised to a 5-2 win against Real Sociedad last night. The victory leaves them 16 points behind Liga leaders Barcelona and 10 off their city rivals Atletico. With Real cruising into a 4-0 half-time lead, they took their feet off the pedal for the second half, no doubt with half an eye of their mighty Champions League tie against Paris St-Germain on Wednesday.
Ronaldo set up Lucas Vazquez to open scoring in the first minute, before adding the second himself.
Toni Kroos fired Real’s third in the 34th minute with Ronaldo notching his second – and the hosts’ fourth – three minutes later.
Jon Bautista pulled one back for Sociedad in the 74th minute, but Ronaldo was again on target 10 minutes from the final whistle.
Atletico Madrid closed the gap on LaLiga leaders Barcelona to six points with a narrow 1-0 victory at bottom club Malaga.
Antoine Griezmann struck the only goal of the game inside 40 seconds.
