Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi was voted Man of the Match after the team secured a 1-0 win over the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Uyo on Saturday.

The victory which sealed Nigeria’s place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, was decided by a 73rd-minute goal by substitute Alex Iwobi, who finished off a delightful assist from Abdullahi.

The Anorthosis defender was outstanding for the team but did pick up a yellow card after he pulled off a wrong tackle on a Zambian player in the second half.

New partners of the Nigeria Football Federation, Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group had promised to “make the [Man of the Match] winner N1 million richer, alongside 10 bags of Big Bull Rice to be donated to a charity of the player’s choice.”

And for emerging the best player of the match, Abdullahi was presented with a cash prize of N1 million in Uyo.

The Super Eagles, having taken an unassailable lead in Group B on 13 points, becomes the first African team to qualify for the 2018 global showpiece.

As it stands, Nigeria alongside Spain, Germany, England, Brazil, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and hosts Russia are guaranteed to be at the FIFA World Cup finals next summer.

The Eagles will play their final Group B game away to Algeria next month.
