United caught Chelsea napping yesterday by agreeing a £75million fee with Everton for star striker Lukaku.
Lukaku is set to have his medical in the USA, where he is currently on holiday, with a view to completing his transfer shortly.
And Lukaku has been keeping fit with his close friend and soon-to-be Manchester United team-mate Pogba in Los Angeles.
Pogba’s Instagram story this morning showed pictures of the pair training at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
They were doing fitness drills on an artificial pitch in sunny weather.
United have moved for Lukaku after becoming frustrated in their attempts to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Sources close to the Everton hitman had maintained Lukaku always wanted a return to Chelsea, the club he left in 2014.
But his agent Mino Raiola appears to have brokered a stunning deal to take him to Old Trafford, where he will play alongside Pogba, another client of Raiola’s.
Lukaku, 24, has agreed a five-year contract worth £250,000-a-week with United and has extended his stay in LA where he will undergo a medical.
United’s offer is believed to have clinched the deal – even though Chelsea could have easily matched that offer and were reported at one stage to have agreed terms with the Belgium international.
Even though Chelsea have yet to officially rule themselves out of the race, Jose Mourinho’s £75m swoop for a striker his former club appeared certain they would get this summer, will infuriate rival manager Antonio Conte.
Mourinho and his United squad are due to fly to California on Sunday to start their pre-season tour, with Lukaku now expected to join them.
However, Everton are holding up the move with boss Ronald Koeman said to be furious about losing Lukaku to United.
The Toffees are angry their star man failed to turn up for pre-season training at their Finch Farm base yesterday.
And the Daily Mail say Koeman’s anger escalated when Lukaku failed to answer or return repeated phone calls.
But Lukaku is set to become a Red Devil within the next 48 hours with Pogba thought to be influential in sealing the deal.
So too has Raiola, with Lukaku set to join Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Romero as his clients at United.
