Jay Z has finally broken his silence over the infamous elevator video in which Solange Knowles attacks him as Beyonce looks on.
Jay was on the podcast, “Rap Radar” when he addressed the 2014 incident at the Standard Hotel in NYC, but without discussing the trigger for Solange’s tirade.
Jay said obtusely, “I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space, but it ain’t nothing.”
He went on … “We had one disagreement ever. Before and after we’ve been cool. She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law, my sister.”
It seems Solange was angry over Jay’s alleged infidelity when she went off in the elevator, which he underscores in his new song, “Kill Jay Z” … “You egged Solange on/Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong/you almost went Eric Benet/Let the baddest girl in the world get away.”
JAY-Z’s most famous line on his new album 4:44 turned out to be the one about money phones.
You’re on the Gram holding money to your ear, there’s a disconnect / We don’t call that money over here,” Hov raps.
Future, Boosie Badazz, Drake and Blac Youngsta have all objected to that advice, and have made it clear they will continue to put cash to the side of their head if that’s what they feel like doing.
In his Rap Radar interview that aired yesterday, Hov expressed surprise that the line got so much blowback.
“I didn’t even tell people to stop using the money phone,” he admits. “I didn’t say that. I had to listen again like ‘How is this being misinterpreted?’ because I just said it ain’t money to us. It ain’t. That’s just an honest statement.”
He then clarified what he meant about real money:
“Money to us, me and my three friends on the floor at Golden State, not because the seats are expensive but because that’s what we’re doing, you’ve never seen that,” he said. “Or, building brands and pushing it forward. That can’t be the end all, that can’t be our goal, to get money and show it on the Internet. That can’t be our goal, that’s some corny shit.”
